Alyssia Janee is helping Gen Z’ers level up

Independence and initiative

19-year-old Alyssia Janee is an outspoken thought leader who believes young people hold the key to our future. Growing up, she didn’t always have the same privileges as others in her community, so she wanted to create those opportunities for those who came after her. “I am a young black woman who understands the value of education and wants to share my knowledge and wisdom with the world,” she said. “Growing up in a single-parent household and being the middle child helped me understand independence and initiative, which helped me become who I am today.”

In high school, she started her first organization, Teen Boss, to create more opportunities for students. After the organization hit 100 members, she knew the rest was history.

Space to learn and grow

Today, Alyssia is the Founder and CEO of Student Boss Inc, where she educates and empowers others to create the best possible lives for themselves through business. She’s also a TikToker, who shares entrepreneurship advice to nearly 90k followers.“I don't come from a family of entrepreneurs, and it was hard trying to teach myself all the different aspects of being an entrepreneur,” she said.  “I decided to create the community I was looking for where student entrepreneurs could connect and collaborate. This gave us the space to learn and grow.”

“I don't come from a family of entrepreneurs, and it was hard trying to teach myself all the different aspects of being an entrepreneur.”

As an exceptional Gen Z’er making an impact, she was honored for her work in economics through the ConversationaLIST. “I use my voice for good by teaching others that it is possible to be both a student and a boss,” she said.

Alyssia wants to encourage Gen Z’ers who are still looking to find their voices to be open to new experiences and learn from failed experiences.

Looking ahead to the future, she wants to build a headquarters for StudentBossInc where student entrepreneurs can come to learn, create, collaborate, and have access to resources to help them grow. She hopes to be remembered for helping others achieve their dreams

Respecting perspectives

Alyssia resonates with The Conversationalist’s mission to uplift voices and gives youth space to use their own because of her experience growing her own platform. “For a while, my family did not understand what I was doing or why I was doing it,” she recalled. “I was often told to "quit wasting time and go get a job," and I was able to use my voice to teach them and others that there are more opportunities in the world.”

For Alyssia, a unified world means people collaborate on ideas to create a better society and more equal opportunities for all voices to be heard. She believes our generation can achieve this by giving youth a platform to share their thoughts and ideas on important topics. “This will allow for more changes to be shared and implemented,” she said.

To break open her echo chambers, Alyssia leans into the things that scare her. “Our personal doubts hold us back from being the ignitor of change and progress,” she said.

"We all have different historical backgrounds and have witnessed different things that create our perspectives.”

When it comes to tackling difficult conversations, Alyssia encourages others to remember that perspective comes from experience. “We all have different historical backgrounds and have witnessed different things that create our perspectives,” she said. “Respecting the perspective of others will allow us to expand our own.”
